Global Business Brigade: Panama

(Torti, Panama, August 11-17, 2018)

Panama

Global Business Brigades is an international movement of university students and professionals building economic opportunities in the developing world. It allows volunteers to act as consultants to local entrepreneurs in Panama, Ghana, and Honduras. During their Panama trip, DeGroote participants were able to help a client understand her financial statements to keep her books managed, establish a business name, and apply for the first-ever Kiva microfinance loan in Panama. These measures helped the client increase productivity, ultimately making the business profitable. Students also held a financial literacy clinic for villagers, which allowed them to implement recommended strategies into their businesses.

I had one of the best weeks of my life in Panama helping our client with her business. I truly appreciated the hospitality and felt welcomed throughout this experiential trip, which allowed me to apply the business knowledge I’ve gained over the years at DeGroote.
